WikiProject Category-Class page categories
[edit]Hello. It appears that yesterday, as the result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 December 7#Category:Category-Class articles, hundreds of categories were moved from titles like "WikiProject Foo Category-Class articles" to "WikiProject Foo Category-Class pages". However, the underlying WikiProject templates which assign pages to these categories have not been changed, and so no pages have actually been moved from the "Category-Class articles" categories to the "Category-class pages" categories. I write to you because of your comment last week asking "Perhaps the bot operator could give us some indication on when these will be moved, so we can syncronise the change?" Unfortunately, the bot operator (me) is not a mind reader, and so I had no knowledge of this discussion until today. The answer to your question is -- never. The bot simply will not move a page if it has been placed in a category by a template. The only way this can happen is if the template itself is edited. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 20:52, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. The module (Module:WikiProject banner) was indeed updated several days ago, and pages should be making their way across gradually. We set it up so that as soon as the new category was created it would start being used. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:43, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- As of today, I've had a bot making null edits on all pages in the remaining "Category-Class Foo articles" categories. The ones that stay after a null edit are there because of a template that is hard-coding them into that category. {{WikiProject U.S. Roads}}, as you know, is responsible for the vast majority. However, there are also some groups of categories like "Disambig-Class Foo articles" and "Redirect-Class Foo articles" where many or all of the contents are talk pages in namespace 1; if your banner template(s) is/are categorizing pages based on namespace, these are going to be treated as "articles" rather than "pages". [edit]Hello Martin. Thanks for being a mentor. I just finished my first draft wiki article in my sandbox. I pressed publish and it was reviewed but it got rejected because it was blank. I think I'm doing something wrong. My options won't let me "move" the article out of my sandbox. Not sure how to get the correct (written) content to the reviewers. Any advice welcome. Thank you! Might I enquire as to why you have created a subst-only wrapper for a template that passes everything identically to the main template, instead of just making it a redirect? (please do not ping on reply) Primefac (talk) 16:32, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Primefac and happy new year. Yes it was just to allow project members to use the shortcut WIR, which the bot will then convert to the expanded form, which makes readability of the wikicode easier and gives a bit more exposure to the project rather than have people scratching their heads over what WIR stands for.
